Watch out Craigslist and eBay...there's a new kid on the block!

Freenapkin.com is an all free claim market. Donate or Claim items all day everyday. Fast and free for anybody.

This site is getting tons of hits. Free Napkin is a similar idea to online bartering sites in terms of creating a profile, leaving feedback, etc, just without the actual money transfer. You just give some stuff away for free.

Freenapkin.com has become increasingly popular with bargain hunters, smart consumers, and those looking to donate used merchandise. This site allows consumers in all fifty states to "auction" off items including couches, dinnerware, tables, books, baby gear, and exercise equipment.

Basically, Free Napkin is a great website where you can get free items from others that need to get rid of them. Anyone who wants to take an item off their hands is welcome to. It’s on a first come first served basis. The claimer pays the shipping on the item, or picks it up in person.

For people looking to unload unwanted items, Craigslist seems just as easy to use, but with the added bonus of getting something in return.

Free Napkin is not the prettiest website but it works and is connecting people and things in these days of tight budgets. People have picked up items from farming machinery to baby formula for free on Free Napkin.

What are you waiting for, go check it out?

Here comes Google Voice

Google just started to release a preview of Google Voice, an application that helps you better manage your voice communications. Google Voice will be available initially to existing users of GrandCentral, a service we acquired in July of 2007.

The new application improves the way you use your phone. You can get transcripts of your voicemail (see the video below) and archive and search all of the SMS text messages you send and receive. You can also use the service to make low-priced international calls and easily access Goog-411 directory assistance.

Sears Tower Name Change - Willis Tower?

Sears Tower Name Change - Willis Tower?

The Sears Tower is soon to be renamed "Willis Tower" this coming summer.

The 110-story skyscraper is the nation’s tallest building. Sears, Roebuck & Co. opened the giant in 1973 as its corporate headquarters. The tower was the world's tallest building until 1996, when it was surpassed by the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Chicagoans have already expressed their frustration with the Sears Tower name change.

The naming rights to the western hemisphere’s tallest building was agreed to as a lease term with Willis Group Holdings, a London-based insurance broker. Willis Group Holdings is the world’s third-largest insurance brokerage, with brokerage revenue of $2.46 billion in 2007, according to Crain’s sister publication Business Insurance.

Willis will be moving 500 employees into the Chicago skyscraper. The insurance broker announced Thursday morning that it will move to the Sears Tower and that the building will be renamed Willis Tower. Willis expects to complete the move by late summer.

Willis is the largest new tenant to move into Sears Tower since the 2001 terrorist attacks. In recent years, the building has suffered several big tenant losses.

"They own the building," Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley said. "They should name it, sure. Sears moved out a long time ago."

Big Love Endowment Ceremony - Mormons React!

Big Love Endowment Ceremony - Mormons React!

Producers of the HBO cable series "Big Love", a polygamy drama, apologized ahead of time to the Mormons for any offence the episode may cause. The March 15th episode will show an endowment ceremony in a Mormon temple, which depicts a sacred religious rite.

The "Big Love" series stars Bill Paxton, a hardware chain store owner and married to three wives. The wives are played by Jeanne Tripplehorn, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Chloe Sevigny.

Mormons react with anger at news of the episode. The Mormon Church only allows selected individuals and members in good standing to witness such a ceremony. The Mormon Church had already voiced fears about the series, which launched in 2006. In a release, it says it feels betrayed by HBO.

The network released a statement late Tuesday to address the outrage.

"It was not our intention to do anything disrespectful to the church, but to those who may be offended we offer our sincere apology."

Possible Melanoma Treatment? SOX9 Role

SOX9 Protein Function and Possible Melanoma Treatment

Researchers have shown, in a new study just released, that a specific protein plays an important role in inhibiting the development and spread of melanoma tumors in mice and in human skin models. SOX9 is a promising new target for melanoma therapies.

The protein called SOX9 has been identified by researchers from the Laboratory of Cell Biology in NCI’s Center for Cancer Research. SOX9 inhibits both melanoma cell proliferation and restores the sensitivity of melanoma cells to the chemotherapy drug retinoic acid. The ability to increase sensitivity to retinoic acid by stimulating SOX9 expression could lead to new approaches for treating melanoma and other cancers. The results were published March 9 in the Journal of Clinical Investigation.

In research comparison the SOX9 was found in all of the normal skin samples. However, the protein was weakly expressed or missing in most of the nevi, in more than 90 percent of the primary tumors, and in all of the metastatic tumors. When gene transfer was used by researchers to restore SOX9 expression to melanoma cells grown in culture, the protein caused cell cycle arrest (the cancerous cells stopped dividing).
